Gosford Castle in Northern Ireland

You may not be able to buy a property on the fantasy continent of Westeros, but for fans of George R. R. Martin's novels, this is the next best thing!

This 19th century castle, which was in the TV show Game of Thrones, could be yours for less than a king's ransom for only $ 852,000!

Gosford Castle in Markethill, Northern Ireland, is a vast 15-bedroom estate surrounded by nature.

And if the gardens look familiar, it's because this is where one character in the show, Rickard Karstark, was beheaded.

It is not every day that we can visit such a castle! Good visit!

15 bedrooms

Gosford Castle, in Markethill, Northern Ireland, is a vast 15-bedroom estate. The owners of the castle suggest to convert the space into six luxury apartments with each boasting an average space of 3500 square feet and with some offering rooftop gardens. It is clear that the interior of the castle needs repairs and that it must be very expensive to restore it.

10 bathrooms

The castle's spacious interior includes the round tower as well as 10 bathrooms. The building will need some work before it's liveable as there is currently no heating.

Beautiful woodwork

We do not know what the next owner will decide to do with the castle, but it would be sad and almost a crime not to keep the beautiful woodwork of the castle.

History of the castle

The castle was designed in the Norman Revival style by London architect Thomas Hopper and was occupied by the Earls of Gosford until 1921.

During WWII

During the Second World War, the castle was commandeered and used to accommodate troops, and a prisoner-of-war camp was also set up on the estate.

Scenes in the series

If the gardens of Gosford Catsle look familiar, it's because this is where one character in the show, Rickard Karstark, was beheaded by Robb Stark in the Game of Thrones series. The castle also appears in a scene during the siege of Riverrun.

After the war

After the war, the castle was sold to the Ministry of Agriculture, which created the Gosford Forest Park, which was later designated Northern Ireland's first conservation forest in 1986.

A hotel in 1983

The castle became a hotel in 1983.

Own a castle

This is only one part of the castle that is for sale and not all the castle. Nevertheless, to be able to say that we are the owner of a portion of a castle and to live such a place, it is fantastic! The next owners can turn their part of the castle into apartments (as suggested) or even make a small hotel!
