With the return of summer there is also the return of bugs entering our homes. While most of them are harmless, they can be quite annoying and even scary! Many people are scared of spiders, and I am one of them!
Did you notice there were more spiders this time around?
Fortunately, there are more natural solutions to drive spiders away from your home.
HERE ARE 10 NATURAL SOLUTIONS:
1) Peppermint essential oil and dish soap:
In a spray bottle, add 750 ml (3 cups) of water, 10 ml (1 tsp) of dish soap and 15 ml (1 tsp) peppermint essential oil. Shake well and spray the outlines of doors and windows, corners of walls and ceilings, garden furniture and garden accessories. Also spray on the outside after heavy rains.
Sprinkling cinnamon around the perimeter of your house will prevent spiders from entering it. They don't like cinnamon!
3) Salt water:
Salt water does not chase spiders, it will kill them. A good tip to use if you are infested. Spray a solution made of 3785 ml (1 gallon) of hot water and 28 ml (1 ounce) of salt directly onto spiders and nests to eliminate them.
4) White vinegar:
Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and water in equal parts. Spray the mixture on all cracks, crevices, the contours of doors and windows of the house. The smell of vinegar will dissipate after a few hours. Repeat the operation after 3 or 4 days of heavy rain.
5) Cotton balls:
Dip cotton balls in peppermint essential oil and place them outside your house to chase away spiders.
Spiders hate chestnuts! Keep some chestnuts on the windowsills to deter spiders from entering the house.
7) Citrus peels:
Rub the citrus peels on baseboards, door and window sills, shelves and places where you usually find spiders. Spiders hate citrus fruits! Even polishing furniture with lemon peels will do! Bonus, your home will smell fresh!
8) Cedar hangers:
If you're scared of spiders, a good way to make sure you never find a spider in your clothes is to hang your clothes on cedar wooden hangers. Spiders don't like the smell of cedar.
Spiders will stay away from anything smelling of tobacco. Mix tobacco with water, sieve the mixture and spray all the entry points of the house. A good tip for smokers.
10) Coconut oil:
This oil is really effective for almost everything! Mix 1 part of coconut oil with 2 parts of water and use on cracks and crevices to prevent spiders from entering the house.
