Clogged kitchen and bathroom sinks are mainly caused by household solid waste, grease buildup, food debris, detergents, piping problems, and design and installation errors.

Design and installation issues require professional intervention, but you can easily take care of everything else.

In the United Kingdom, for example, 93% of water damage is caused by sanitary napkins being thrown into the toilet. Be aware that they contain non-biodegradable plastic.

Here are 7 simple methods to unclog pipes and save you the cost of a plumber!

1. Salt and baking soda

If the sink is clogged with a grease buildup, use salt and baking soda.

Mix the salt and baking soda that way: 2 volumes of salt and 1 volume of baking soda.

Mix everything in a glass of water and pour the mixture directly into the drain hole.

After 10 minutes, use a plunger or a cloth to unclog the sink !

Rinse with hot water for 3 minutes.

2. A vacuum cleaner

Yes. You can vacuum your pipes!

To do this, place the flexible hose of your vacuum cleaner on the drain hole, pressing firmly. Wrap it in a damp cloth for a better seal and vacuum for 3 to 5 minutes.

Rinse the area with water.

Be careful, because not all vacuum cleaners can absorb water. Check out the instruction manual of your device first before using this technique.

3. Baking soda and vinegar

Pour 250 grams of baking soda into the drain of your sink and add over 100 ml of vinegar. It is recommended that the pipe is covered with a cloth so that the chemical reaction takes place inside the pipe, not on the surface.

Wait until the mixture stops foaming.

Slowly pour boiling water through the hole and let cold water run through it for 3 to 5 minutes.

4. A plunger

Place a plunger directly onto the drain, and press firmly.

Fill the sink with hot water.

The plunger must be completely covered with water.

Press the handle firmly several times in a row, then lift it all at once.

Repeat several times.

To increase the effect, plug the drain hole with a damp cloth.

5. Water

Place a flexible rubber hose on the faucet and wrap it with a damp cloth to create a kind of tight plug.

Turn on the water at full power for 3 to 5 minutes.

For the most severe clogged sinks, it is best to use hot water.

6. Double plunger

To unclog a pipe when there are two drain holes, two plungers must be used at the same time. When taking care of one part of the sink, be sure to cover the other part with another plunger or airtight cap. Use a damp cloth if you do not have two plungers.

7. An effervescent tablet

If you do not have baking soda, but you have effervescent tablets, you should try this.

Mix an effervescent tablet with vinegar, and pour the resulting mixture through the drain hole. Then cover it with a cloth and rinse thoroughly with water after 10 minutes.
