The year 2020 was really hard for everybody on the planet, but most particularly elderly people in care homes. Because of coronavirus, they spent even more time alone than usual with the visits being restricted. That measure was implemented to protect them as they are in the higher risk category.

But being separated from their loved ones is really hard for their mental health! That is why Hallamshire Care Home in the United Kingdom decided that it was time for families to reunite and "hug" again!

They created "hugging mitts" a way for family members to be able to hug without actually having to touch each other! The "visiting nooks" are permitting family to still maintain social distancing while being able to touch their loved ones.

The elderly residents are able to see their families through a glass and "hug" using gloves so no germs can pass through!

There are also headphones available so the visitors and the residents can have full conversations in person.

We must not forget about our parents and grandparents in nursing facilities during these hard times! But we must take all the precautions to protect them from the virus. While some people are really happy to be finally able to see their family members, we can't help but feel sad that it has to be through a glass!
