Here is a creative example that demonstrates how you can transform an "ordinary" object into something truly unique.
After seeing a woman paint a wooden dollhouse with spray paint, Samantha Browning decided to do the same with a playhouse found at a second-hand store for as little as $8. With spray paint and black acrylic, she transformed the first "home" into a true haunted mansion.
She then bought two more homes on Facebook's Marketplace, for only $25
She plans to start a new makeover soon with a house paid only $1. According to her, it will be the prettiest, because it has a modern aspect that will allow the artist to work on several details.
Samantha devotes 5 to 10 hours of work to each of her unusual little homes.
“The first one was 5 hours because I didn’t plan on doing much more than the spray paint and a few details but the dollhouses have so many of their own designs molded into them that you can really spend any amount of time changing them to fit the theme you’re going for. The more houses I get, the more I try to change those items to make the piece completely different and grow from where I started.” she explained to Bored Panda.
“This year, with the pandemic and Halloween being ‘canceled,’ I may try to make one of those banister pipes to slide candy down for families that still want to participate in a safe way,”said Samantha. “I have one of the dollhouses displayed on an interior porch, but the night of, I will probably bring the two spookiest houses outside with battery operated candles.”
The woman never thought her work would go quickly viral! “I’m an artist but I’ve never done much more than draw or paint on a canvas in what little free time I have with kids and everyone in my life has always been very supportive of my art, but when you look around at all the beautiful and incredible things other people are making, you look at your own art as inferior or underwhelming and that can crush your drive to keep creating.” explained the mother.
The level of details she put on these dollhouses is really impressive!
Here are some pictures of her spooky art.
After becoming "internet famous", Samantha made an Instagram page with all of her work.
However, it seems like the market for spooky dollhouse is really popular! Other people are also showing off their hard work online.
What do you think of these modified dollhouses? Would you like to make your own?
