If you had the choice, to be in a freshly cleaned room that smells rose and household products and a room full of smokers, I'm sure you'd choose the first option.
But, did you know that in addition to the bad smell of cigarettes, these two choices are both bad to your lungs?
It may be incredible, but this is what reveals a study published this Friday in American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
The study explains that the chemical components in household products are harmful to health and the environment as well as smoking 20 cigarettes a day for 10 to 20 years.
To arrive at such conclusions, the researchers had to look for 20 years on the case of 6000 people.
Cecilie Svanes, a teacher and researcher at the University of Bergen (Norway), explains that research has shown that the use of these products can lead to serious lung problems.
Moreover, women would be more affected, but this could be explained by the fact that household chores are often very poorly distributed among couples and women would be more exposed to these products.
So, couples are advised to better distribute household chores to avoid overexposure.
Otherwise, we strongly advise those who use these products to use a mask.
Finally, the safest measure could be to use alternatives to household products that are sold in stores. There are many methods that use natural products such as lemon, white vinegar, baking soda or black soap.
