Like most people, you probably have a sponge also called loofah that you use for in the shower. They are indeed very popular and have been very successful with consumers.

However, these shower flowers could potentially be dangerous for health, regardless of whether these accessories are made of natural fibers or not. If you have any in your possession, you should discard them immediately.

Here's why shower sponges might be dangerous to your health:.

1. You may think that shower sponges are safe, but you are wrong. Indeed, these accessories trap bacteria.

2. There might be pathogens, including staphylococcus, stenotrophomonas maltophila and group B streptococcus.

3. With staphylococci in your shower sponges, you are likely to get acne. Stenotrophomonas maltophila can cause respiratory infections.

4. As for group B streptococci, you could end up with serious health problems, such as pneumonia, or even joint infection.

5. These bacteria adhere to the sponges, and they become infected. By sharing them or using the same soap, you could infect other family members or your partner.

So does that mean that your loofa is necessarily infected? If it smells of mold, it probably is. In this case, throw it away immediately or clean it. To disinfect your shower sponge, immerse it in a mixture of 1 part bleach and 9 parts water for 10 minutes. Remove and allow to air dry. Or better even, don't use one!
