Many stores are selling out of hand sanitizer because of the spread of the Coronavirus but also the cold and flu season. To prevent the spread of these disease, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended for people to wash their hands frequently or use hand sanitizer instead. According to the CDC, hand sanitizers should contain at least 60% of alcohol to be effective. However, it is easy to make your own mix at home using only a few basic ingredients.

  • 1/3 cup of aloe vera gel
  • 2/3 cup 99% rubbing alcohol (or isopropyl alcohol)
  • Small container (to dispense the hand sanitizer)

You may also want to use:

  • Small funnel
  • Essential oils

  1.  Mix the aloe vera gel and rubbing alcohol together until its fully incorporated.
  2. For a more pleasant smell, you can add a few drops of essential oil, such as lavender (be sure to test it on your skin first).
  3.  With a funnel, pour the mixture into a bottle or container with a secure lid that will be easy to dispense. Make sure to keep the bottle out of reach of children.

Note : If you cannot find 99% alcohol, make sure that your mixture contains at least 60% of alcohol, you will need to adjust the ratio.

Will you be trying this tip at home? If your local store is sold-out of hand sanitizers this might be the best option for you!
