Julia Marie Mancuso is a US ski champion and Olympic gold medalist. She won the giant slalom at the 2006 Winter Olympics and is now the mother of a 1-year-old named Sonny.
The mom is really popular online, is a podcast host and has over 249k followers on her Instagram page. She posts a lot about her daily life as a mom of a toddler and recently shared a video that went viral. In the short clip, you can see that Mancuso is holding a very happy and smiling toddler before she throws him into the air and you can see the little boy landing and disappearing in deep snow...but his mother quickly picks him up.
Some people quickly questioned her parenting skills and were concerned for the little boy's safety. Take a look at the video for yourself.
After facing some backsplash, Mancuso explained herself:
" Just wanted to share because I've gotten some messages that just really don't understand this video. Sonny loved it- there was zero risk of something being buried in the snow since it happened over the course of a day on our patio- we literally watched the snow fall. We practiced - then we went for it! You really don't get these conditions often and can only enjoy the fluffy softness the very next day- so yeah- I don't think it's a good idea to through your kid into any snow bank... but when it snows like this! It's game on?" she wrote on the Instagram post.
People were still divided in the comments section. A user commented: "No harm to children until he suffocates and gets a mouthful of snow and aspirates." Someone else added: "Poor baby. Sometimes laugh is combined with anxiety. He is too small to say what he really felt."
On the other hand, other people had a very different opinion: "All the negative comments are ridiculous - you certainly would NEVER put your sweet Sonny at risk, in snow, on snow, in or on water. Anywhere for that matter!"
Mancuso admitted later that she doesn't advise other parents to 'throw their kid into a snowbank', but that there was 'zero risk' posed to her son by doing so.
What do you think? Do you believe it was a dangerous action?
