The lockdown caused by COVID-19 is pushing some people to turn to creative hobbies and/or crafts. You have to pass the time and Netflix and video games have their limits!
Manual activities can relieve anxiety and reduce stress. A good thing in such a stressful period!
Currently, the trend in the crochet world is inspired by the Etsy store NansyOops: miniature animals. You can buy very inspiring patterns, just like this adorable dragon.
This mythical little animal is only 20mm tall and can be used as a keychain or placed on a desk. If you have mini terracotta pots, you can put them in there and that's just lovely!
The pattern requires at least an intermediate level of crochet skill and materials like embroidery floss, sewing thread, crochet hook, glass eyes, beading needle, scissors, oil pastels and a toothpick.
The trick here is to use embroidery floss instead of wool. The technique used by Anastasia, the creator of NansyOops, is called amigurumi, a term made up of two Japanese words: ami, which means crochet or knitting, and nuigurumi, a stuffed doll. Amigurumis are often tiny really cute creatures and animals. This style is very popular on Etsy and among craft enthusiasts.
Here are some examples of what you could achieve. There are dragons, but also cubs, unicorns, rabbits ... The possibilities are endless! Then you will have to choose between keeping your wonderful creations, or gifting them to a loved one to cheer them up!
Children would also surely love to have a collection and play with their little animals in the cars or in their toy houses.
