A mailman from Boldon, England decided to bring a bit of sunshine during these dark days. Jon Matson has been a mailman for four and half years and absolutely loves his job! He enjoys spending time outside and of course interacting with other people all day!
Then, the COVID-19 outbreak hit and things got dark for the mailman and his community. Customers were locked down inside their homes and weren't interacting as much anymore. The mailman could see that they were living in fear and anxiety. He told Insider:
"When the lockdown started and the coronavirus started taking a real hold, people were starting to get a bit frightened."
He then had a genius idea! Instead of his work uniform, he started wearing costumes to work everyday to put smiles back on his customer's faces! Since Matson participate in yearly charity event, he already had a variety of costumes at home. And guess what, the response to his dressing-up game has been amazing! All members of families are gathering at the windows everyday to see the mailman's costume! There is even cars and trucks that are honking to support his idea.
Take a look at some of his costumes below.
"For the last two years, I have been on this particular round, so I have gotten to know all of the customers quite well. When the lockdown started and the coronavirus started taking a real hold, people were starting to get a bit frightened, " said Jon Matson.
"Everybody is now coming to the door, waiting for me coming round, and when the first person sees me on the round, they start to message their friends, so before I even get there people are waiting at windows. Everybody is laughing and cheering, and cars and trucks who drive past honk their horns. I even had the police honking their horns at me today," he told Insider.
"There's customers on my round who are offering to donate costumes, and businesses that have closed down because of the virus, and fancy dress companies have sent me costumes as well," said the mailman.
Jon Matson has two kids who are also loving seeing their dad in costume everyday: "They think its brilliant, obviously their routine is on hold at the minute. They think it's normal, it doesn't seem to phase them," he said.
Thank you Jon for trying to put a smile back to many people faces during this difficult time!
